what is a capsule wardrobe?
“… your personal style should always be your primary compass.” – “the curated closet” by anuschka rees

the term “capsule wardrobe”, coined by suzie faux, is a concept of interchangeable pieces that are classic and virtually seasonless combined with fashion pieces to personalize. the number of pieces were typically between 25 and 50.
a capsule wardrobe for black girls comes out of my love for “boudoir noire” tm. boudoir noire interprets as a “black woman’s dressing room”. it creates a wardrobe of garments that are extremely personal to the many cultures and richness of the black diaspora maintaining the structure of a capsule. this often assumed impossible but absolutely is not!
you can take all the elements you really love in your wardrobe, add up them together in a menagerie of sorts with a common thread so they all work together. remove the pieces that do not; there is no limit to the number of items!
first step to creating your capsule is finding what works for you.
for many of us, including myself, it starts with your go to outfit full of key pieces that becomes an easy grab and go in your closet. limit it to one and expand your wardrobe based on that one outfit.
there is an outfit at the onset of every season that you cannot wait to wear. when that season ends, you are sad to put it away. think of those few items that go together so well and you would be upset if they were damaged or lost.
why not build a closet full of those formulated outfits? why not build a wardrobe full of those formulas that work well together and therefore can create an abundance of combinations each season?
this blog will not only teach you the principles and parameters for capsule wardrobing, but how to refine and reinvent your personal style as many times as your heart desires.
this my friends is a capsule wardrobe for black girls!
